Fylis landfill...

Alexandros Beltes/ANA

An earth-moving machine is seen yesterday preparing the site of a new landfill adjacent to Attica’s main dump at Ano Liosia, west of Athens, which reached saturation more than a year ago. The new dump, called the Fylis landfill, is directly next to the Ano Liosia landfill, on the same 1,000-hectare site. Authorities have said the new landfill should be ready to start taking in trash in about a month. Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras, who visited the site yesterday, said Greece needed to boost recycling so that less waste goes into landfills.
