Butcher critical after car crashes into shop

A 33-year-old butcher and one of his customers were yesterday hospitalized after a car smashed through the glass display of the butcher’s store in Kavala, northern Greece, in what appeared to be a freak accident.

According to police the car, which had been parked opposite the store, rolled across the road and through the glass facade. Officers investigating the scene, who found the car to be locked, were unable to identify the vehicle’s owner or reveal the exact circumstances of the crash. There was no indication that foul play might have been involved.

The 33-year-old butcher was in critical condition late yesterday after undergoing surgery at Kavala’s general hospital for serious head injuries sustained when he was hit by the car. The other victim, who sustained back injuries, was out of danger, doctors said.
