Emergency workers find another flood victim, raising death toll to 21
Rescue workers on Tuesday recovered yet another body in the area of Mandra, bringing the death toll from last week's disastrous flash floods in western Attica to 21.
The body was found close to the Mandra municipality depot and transferred to the Thriassio hospital where relatives were expected to identify him.
Meanwhile the search continued for one more person that remains unaccounted for.
As residents of Mandra and Neo Peramos continue efforts to clean up their mud-drenched homes, state officials were inspecting properties in the area following a government pledge of aid to those whose homes and properties were damaged in
the floodwaters.
Until early Tuesday, technical teams had inspected 1,573 buildings of which 1,184 were deemed to be eligible for compensation.
On Monday, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said the state would make payments of 5,000 euros to those whose homes were seriously damaged, with 8,000 euros going to businesses.
