Greek PM to meet farmers next week
Representatives of Greece’s protesting farmers will meet on Monday with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in a bid to break the lingering deadlock, the government said Friday.
Agricultural Minister Vangelis Apostolou said Friday that most farmers’ unions had responded to a government proposal for talks next week.
“The path of dialogue remains open,” the minister said.
Farmers have been intermittently blocking roads into Bulgaria and motorways across Greece for about four weeks, protesting pension reforms that will triple their social security contributions over the next four years.
