Thessaloniki storm knocks out power lines
Public Power Corporation (PPC) crews were on Friday trying to restore the electricity supply to several parts of the northern port city of Thessaloniki after strong downpours on Thursday knocked out several power lines.
Most of the damage from the rain was limited to eastern Thessaloniki and resulted in power cuts in parts of Peraia, Plagiari, Trilofos, Epanomi, Aghia Triada and Redestos.
The downpour, which was accompanied by thunder and lightning, began early on Thursday evening and continued until around midnight.
Strong winds also felled a few trees and branches, with the fire service receiving 22 calls for assistance.
