Civil servants and others to strike in Athens
Public sector union ADEDY has called a 24-strike by all civil service workers for Wednesday to coincide with the first round of voting in Parliament on a raft of new austerity measures needed to clinch a third bailout deal with Greece’s international creditors.
ADEDY also called on public sector workers to gather in front of the House in Syntagma Square at 7 p.m. to protest Monday’s agreement between the SYRIZA-led government and eurozone leaders.
More rallies are expected on the same day as pharmacists and local authority workers are among those protesting the proposed reforms.
Members of the union representing restaurant owners are expected to join the action on Wednesday in a bid to protest plans to increase value-added tax on their services to 23 percent from 13 percent.
